What we do

Socials, training, events ...
More than a network - ultimately a comprehensive, up-to-date database where you can look for teachers, players, groups, choirs, bands, venues, recording studios, technical advisers............

And where you can pick up tips on publicity, marketing, dealing with the Press or TV, finding an agent.... from those who've been there before.

Training is on the agenda - whether it's about marketing, volunteering, setting up a website, or continuing professional development.

Membership is currently free until our big Launch in September. All our services are open to all - and members get a discount on any charges.

Monthly meetings
The first thursday of each month - 1.30pm to 3.30pm in the Citadel.

We meet up every month to talk about what's happening musically in St Helens. Hear about the events while they're still in the planning stage, promote your services, influence decision-making and listen to interesting speakers. The meetings are open to all - just turn up - or phone first so that we have an idea of numbers for refreshments.

Regular bulletins
We'll send out regular updates and information to our members so that you don't miss a thing.

Learn new skills
There are a range of opportunities for anyone who wants to be involved in music in the borough. From volunteering roles through to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for musicians.

Courses planned for the next six months include the Arts Award training to offer accreditation to practitioners. The Arts Award itself is a nationally recognised qualification, which is recognised by Universities under the points system. We feel that the Arts Award offers a holistic alternative to the traditional music exams and we want practitioners in St Helens to be able to offer it to students.

You Play courses are an opportunity for you to participate in technical workshops regardless of your skills or abilities. We want to encourage everyone to experience the fun of creating music. Our workshops are lively and energetic. People come out of them enthused and wanting to learn more.

Our first event, in partnership with the Citadel, was aimed at young people aged 11-19. Freelance musicians conducted workshops on music technology, guitar playing, DJ-ing, and creating and performing music.

Practitioners selected from our membership run the workshops. We ensure that our workshop leaders have appropriate CRB checks and insurance in place.

Events
We participate in anything music-related in St Helens! From Streetwaves through to Eclectica, from hedstrong through to Bach to the Future. You'll find music-net encouraging everyone to be involved in music.

We're at St Helens Festival for the whole event. Two days of workshops plus a featured slot on the main stage. And you'll find our members playing on all the music stages as well as at individual stalls.

Whether we're leading an event, supporting our members, or providing music content for other organisations, you'll find music-net involved.

Socials
We aim to hold socials at least twice a year. These informal and relaxed events will include performances from some of our members and an opportunity to network. For details of our next event see the Events section

And what do you need?
We're open to your ideas. Tell us where the gaps are and what would help you. Help us to provide the services you want to build our local musical community.
