The Street Parade-8.30pm.
Mangueira Samba School's performance at this year’s Carnival 2008 for Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture year is amazing news and adds to the buzz already surrounding what promises to be the biggest carnival Liverpool has ever seen.

Over 80 years old, Mangueira is one of the most celebrated samba schools in the ‘grupo especial’ of Rio de Janeiro’s competitive yearly ‘carnaval’, (in effect, the equivalent of the F.A. Cup for samba), a huge event held in the Sambodromo, a purpose built arena, in Rio each year. Their iconic pink and green colour scheme makes Mangueira stand out amongst the other schools and they have paraded away as champions with the ’super campea’ title on numerous occasions.

The Brazilian Street Party is the brainchild of Roger and Maeve Morris, who have put together a unique event after 20 years of working in the city with Liverpool Samba School.

The party begins at 8.30 p.m. at the Arts Centre on Myrtle Street in Liverpool City centre where Mangueira will be joined by schools from London, Manchester, Holland, Ireland, Germany, Spain and Liverpool. Dancers from the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, Liverpool Community College and NLA will join the assembly.

The drummers and dancers will parade through Liverpool city centre taking in Bold street, Slater street, Wood street, Concert Square, Fleet Street, Duke Street and Great George Street, finishing at the Chinese Arch in Chinatown round 10.00 p.m.

The party continues later when Mangueria will headline a Carnival Show at the Picket Music Venue. Liverpool's respected No Fakin DJ's, fresh from collaborating with the world-renowned Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Vasily Petrenko, will be providing sounds. The night will be punctuated with performances from the assembled Samba Schools showcasing their individual and particular interpretations of Brazilian Samba.

Tickets: www.ticketweb.co.uk £5.00 or pay at the door. The Show-doors open 10.00pm.
