How to Join 2009/2010

The Liverpool Philharmonic Youth
Orchestra offers young musicians
from the region exceptional orchestral
training and performance experience.
As the youth orchestra of the Royal
Liverpool Philharmonic, its members
benefit from a prestigious association with
one of the UK’s premier symphony orchestras
and concert halls.

Performances

Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra performs four concerts
each season at Philharmonic Hall. It is also invited to give concerts
in community venues, as well as providing small ensembles for
functions and events. The orchestra is committed to international
touring and has performed in many countries worldwide, including
Poland, Spain, Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Rehearsals & Residential Courses

Rehearsals are held on Sundays during term-time, with additional
rehearsals in the lead up to performances. Residential courses are
scheduled in non-touring years.

Fees

Membership of the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra costs
£100 annually. Residential course fees and tour costs are additional.
In cases of exceptional financial hardship, bursaries to help with
these costs can be awarded.

Who can apply?

Membership is open to all young musicians aged between 13 and
23 years. String players should have reached a minimum of
Associated Board Grade 6 standard or equivalent, wind and brass
players Grade 8 or equivalent, and percussionists at least Grade 5.

Auditions

In the audition, applicants will be required to play a study and a
contrasting piece and will be given orchestral sightreading.
Auditions take place in Liverpool on the following dates:

5 and 26 July 2009
13 September 2009

There may be further opportunities to audition later in the year if
places are available.
