New World Record Attempt at St Helens Christmas Lights Switch On
Hi guys,
I am planning to set a world record of at least 500 people playing tambourine at a key event, one suggestion being something like the Christmas Light Swich on in St Helens this year 2008. It will undoubtably raise awareness of Music-Net but would also add a little extra to the occassion and one that can involve families, as well as something that will set our switch on apart from all the major cities.
I believe it will generate positive publicity from the media who lets face it never publicise anyone if its not one of the big cities or has a major star at the event. Moreover I also believe that it will be our own little contribution to Liverpool's Capital of Culture as it was evident from the St Helens Festival how many drumming and percussion organisations from right across the spectrum took part.
Interestingly, did you know that the number one Christmas present for children in 2007 was actually a set of drums, quite a far cry from my day as a session drummer in the 80's when I had to quit due to the demise of real drums on records being replaced by machines.
Any how the burning question is: Is there anyone out there (other than Music-Net Directors who have been involved already) that would be interested in making it happen and does anyone have connections to do this bigger and better than what I have proposed?
It seems we may well have the Tambourines secured in a donation from a top music store but if anyone can contribute then all well and good. I am awaiting the ID registration from Guiness World Records to get this sanctioned officially and there is a good response so far from various Council Members that have been sounded out.
Come on St Helens, this is our chance to do something different and one that can become an annual event trying to beat or set new world records.

Nice one Ian
I love your drive and enthusiasm and like you say this is something
all ages can be involved in.
It needs to attract as much publicity as possible....so how about
a "LIVE" link up with one of the Regional T.V or Radio stations (Both)
especially if it's timed right.
and a webcast that ex-pats can watch from any corner of the globe!
Bring it on
Stevie
Ok, so now we have the ball rolling.
I have a claim ID from Guiness and I have just today sent off the forms to register with them the attempt and when we are planning it. What I need now is for everyone who reads this to tell anyone they know and lets aim it at getting schools and community groups to take part and register their intent on getting a tambourine and being part of a world record for Christmas.
Please, please, please get involved by posting a reply on here to give me an idea of how much general interest we have.
I'll spread the word to all my contacts and will pass on the link
Think this is a great idea! Count me in x
That's a great idea. I'm up for it and I will also spread the word for you. x
That's great !

The Jungle telephone better than ...er.... well just better!
I've also had an email from somebody who is interested.
Kx
Hi all I am interested in helping out/taking part.
Looks like it'll be the date - fingers crossed for the logistics to work out!
So please everyone, do let everyone know and lets see if we can make the record.
