Interactive map of amateur choirs on the BBC website
Before Christmas, BBC Radio 4’s Today guest editor Robert Wyatt asked people who sang in amateur choirs around the UK to send the sound of their song to the Today programme.
The producers were inundated in music - from requiems to carols and folk songs. From Mousehole to Aberdeen you can hear the sound of Great Britain's choirs by clicking the icons on the interactive map at http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8436000/8436192.stm. The map is a work in progress, and they will endeavour to add as many of the choirs we received as possible in the coming days. Submissions are now closed.
Professor Stephen Clift, director of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health, Canterbury Christ Church University, appeared on this mornings Today programme (13 January 2010) discussing what makes choral singing so popular and some of the health benefits.
