Amateur classical music in the UK

"Why is it that in our culture doing something extremely complex – like playing a musical instrument – only quite well isn't really valued? Surely there's something wrong in that."
Last year, a government report identified 49,140 amateur arts groups in England, of which 11,220 were formally constituted music groups.

Feeling good

people at the recording studios

Here's a poem written by Lady Sherwood, one of the participants in our recent workshops:

I know a song which is four minutes long,
It gives me the hope to help me cope.
When times are bad and i am sad,
This song uplifts my mood a tad.
Feeling Good by musicnet,
Is to me the best song yet.
Give the song a try and you'll soon see why,
That when it comes to sound -its the best around!

Lady said she'd been listening to the song over and over again since we completed it.

CANCELLED -today's meeting

We had to decide one way or another quite early - so, given that we haven't seen a gritter and the main roads are full of roads with spinning wheels, we're cancelling today's meeting.

Stay safe everyone - enjoy the snow while it lasts - and do look after your neighbours.

music-net meeting

Its the first meeting of the new year tomorrow - tuesday 5th January 2010.

We'll be chatting about what we should be doing in the year ahead. That'll include the usual events such as what do we want to do this year for St Helens Festival and how many youplay events we should try to do, as well as planning some new concerts.
