About music-net in St Helens, Merseyside
What can you do?
The launch of our site is just the beginning - it needs you, our members, to build it and take it further. At the moment, think of it as a new notice board, ready and waiting for you to pin on those useful contacts.
If you're looking for something, at the moment you'll have to use the search box at the top. Type in studio or drummer and you'll be given a search results showing results from all our members.
We hope in the next phase to have a fully accessible, sortable, searchable database - but that's stage two and dependent on us raising the money!
Our events listing as well - it shows you everything in date order so you don't have to wade through the whole list to find a good date for your event. Selecting the months to the right hand side shows you what's on each month. Again, eventually we'd like an easy to look at calendar where events are colour coded into categories.
We have lots of exciting and inspiring ideas - and we'd like to hear yours. Please join in and contribute.
Where we came from
St Helens music network has been in existence for three years. Originally organised by the Arts Service at St Helens Council to promote music in the Borough, the group built a membership of 100 practitioners.
In the last 12 months, we decided we were ready to go it alone. As an independent community organisation, we can grasp opportunities for fund raising and providing activities. Four volunteers came forward to take us to the next level and form a Community Interest Company (CIC). St Helens Music Net Community Interest Company, to give it its official title, or music-net for short, has now been registered with the CIC regulator. This is a recognition that we are officially recognised as being a company which is not for personal profit.
Our aim is to increase music participation in the Borough of St Helens. We'll do this by offering events, providing workshops, holding members only meetings and offering an email bulletin. And of course through this website!
Membership of music-net is open to everyone - you don't have to live in St Helens - just be interested in what's going on musically here. For more details see the members pages.
